The first night that the national TV announced the names of the six qualified presidential candidates, I took this picture from the TV screen (I added the red arrows myself.) As you can see, the picture of all the candidates expect for one are arrayed as if they are looking at one of the candidates, which conveys the apparent tendency of the so-called national TV towards that specific candidate.

National TV has to work independently according to law, but in almost all the elections, it has been used as a means of propaganda for a candidate preferred by the government and not by the people. This time the candidate is Mohammad Ghalibaf, the former commander-in-chief of the law-enforcement forces. He comes from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Forces (IRGC – locally known as sepah), a security division specifically advised by Khomeini not to meddle with politics. He was also one of the authorities who threatened president Khatami to a coup d’etat during student riots in June 1999.
